The Mahindra Grille
A Window to Change
The year was 1945. India was struggling to free herself from the shackles of foreign rule. In the midst of this turmoil, a new company was born, a company which soon came to be perceived as one of India’s most respected organizations. And as the nation grew and prospered, the company too scaled new heights and set new benchmarks, inspiring others in a fledging economy.
Indeed, few groups can identify as closely with India’s destiny and industrial progress as the Mahindra Group. Mahindra is like a microcosm of India. Both were born around the same time, had the same aspirations and both experienced the inevitable troughs and crests in the journey towards their goals.
As India changed, so did Mahindra. And what better indicator of that change than the famed ‘Mahindra Grille’, that one defining feature which gave each vehicle that rolled out of the company’s plant a distinct identity and character.
Inspired by the dawn of freedom, motivated by the needs of a new born nation and inspired by the performance of the Willys Jeep on the battlefields of World War II,
A new Multi Utility Vehicle took birth in India, in 1946.
The Classic grille reflected the post world war ethos.
